Darbyshire was recently commissioned by textile artist Matthew Harris to fabricate laquered birch ply display cases with fabric mounted boards for Field Notes – a collaborative performance project between Matthew and composer Howard Skempton. The cases were constructed to fit on trestle legs and where supplied with light weight transit cases.

The two artists began their collaboration with a intensive conversation about each other’s work, and created a latteral discovery of shared language that cuts across both disciplines. Emphasis has been placed on material and process and the physicality of pushing material backwards and forwards until ideas start to reveal something more.
