Jake and Dinos Chapman, In the Realm of the Unmentionable, Jerwood Gallery, Hastings
In the Realm of the Unmentionable brings together some iconic pieces from the last decade, along with works that have not previously been on public display, and new works made specifically for this exhibition. For the etchings and paintings on view, Darbyshire created frames made of Sapele wood with a dark walnut stain and clear matte finish, lending a classic but contemporary look.
Jake & Dinos Chapmans’ work is particularly concerned with consumer culture, mortality, religion and horror. They continue to be influenced by the work of Francisco Goya (1746 – 1828) and George Bataille (1897 – 1962), Surrealism, philosophy, psychology, and the holocaust. In an exceptional body of work that encompasses a vast range of art forms and media, Jake & Dinos Chapman engage with fundamental questions about what it is to be human.
In the Realm of the Unmentionable is on view until 07.01.2015.
