Plexi cases for Fausto Milotti exhibit at Waddington Custot Gallery
This autumn Waddington Custot Galleries has devoted a comprehensive solo show to the Italian artist Fausto Melotti (1901-1986). Darbyshire was commissioned by Waddington Custot to make a striking, contemporary plexi case to present small sculpture by Melotti. Darbyshire intentionally designed the case to be positioned on top of a bold black metal framework for eye level viewing, as a creative twist on the museum-standard solid white plinth format. In addition, Darbyshire created wall mounted plexi display cases with internal shelves and outer aluminium frames to house delicate plaster works. Featuring almost 30 works, this striking exhibition spans 40 years of artistic production, from his early terracotta figures, to his later works in brass.
